Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General on the conflict in the Middle East

The Secretary-General welcomes the announcement that the United States and Iran have agreed on a peace deal that provides for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a framework for further negotiations. Our Mission

UNLOPS connects the United Nations with the European Union, NATO and other actors on peace and security matters.

Based in Brussels, Belgium, the United Nations Liaison Office for Peace and Security (UNLOPS) represents UN entities supporting Member States and the Secretary-General in maintaining peace and security, including the departments responsible for political affairs, peace operations, operational support and counter-terrorism.

The office serves as the United Nations’ peace and security hub in Brussels, supporting policy dialogue, political engagement and operational coordination with the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and their member states. It also supports UN entities based in Brussels.
